In Yemen, while restoring an ancient mosque, labourers found a “gravesite” of very old parchments carrying the words of Koran. The scholars read these to discover that Koran, far from being the immutable word of God, seemed like an evolving text, actively being edited and changed over the centuries. If this is true, then the entire struggle of Muslims over the last 1400 years becomes meaningless. Mohammad was illiterate. Does anyone even know who actually wrote the Koran after him?
